Difficult vs. Destructive Relationships

from Therapy & Theology with Lysa TerKeurst

Understanding Difficult vs. Destructive Relationships

We all navigate difficult relationships at times. These relationships require patience, grace, and hard work, but they don't fundamentally threaten our well-being. Destructive relationships, however, are something else entirely. They actively damage our emotional health and compromise our safety, wholeness, and sense of self. Understanding this distinction has been transformative in my own journey, and I believe it can be equally powerful for you.

Lysa TerKeurst and Leslie Vernick recently collaborated on a Therapy and Theology episode, bringing biblically grounded wisdom, clarity, and compassion to our relationship struggles. In this honest conversation, they explore the critical difference between difficult relationships and destructive relationships, helping us recognize unhealthy patterns and giving us language and tools to discern what we're actually experiencing so we can respond wisely. It's been an invaluable resource as I've navigated complex relational dynamics, and I'm excited to share it with you.

about the resource

Therapy & Theology with Lysa TerKeurst

Have you ever looked at a situation you’re facing in utter disbelief and thought, "How will I ever get over this?" Lysa TerKeurst understands. After years of heartbreak and emotional trauma, she realized it’s not about just getting over hard circumstances but learning how to work through what she has walked through. Now, she wants to help you do the same. That’s why Lysa teamed up with her personal, licensed professional counselor, Jim Cress, alongside the Director of Theological Research at Proverbs 31 Ministries, Dr. Joel Muddamalle, to bring you "Therapy & Theology." While Lysa, Jim and Joel do tackle some really hard topics, you’ll soon find they're just three friends having a great conversation and learning from each other along the way.

We love to feature helpful resources and collaborate with creatives, conversationalists, and community-builders.  Connect with us to have your work featured on The Holy Shift.
