Contribute Your Creativity

The Holy Shift helps people explore the complexities in life, the paradoxes of faith, and how the upside-down kingdom of God always points the right way forward. To submit your work for consideration, please read the guidelines below, then send your queries and pitches via the connect box. (To send full-length pieces and attachments, submit a request for a direct email address.)

  • The Holy Shift publishes art, poetry, music, stories, articles, and essays that pique curiosity and probe faith from a fresh perspective.

We love giving our community a safe place to ask questions, invite nuance, and acknowledge the complexities of faith. We especially love work that explores the upside-down kingdom and prompts the reader to ask, what if upside-down is the right way forward?

While we are a Christian organization, our readers span the spiritual spectrum, and we do not require all work to be overtly Christian. We tend to avoid saccharine expressions of faith, preferring depth and subtlety. Personal stories, testimonies, and explorations of darker themes, such as grief, loneliness, and suffering, are welcome. We are unafraid to publish pieces postured correctively toward harmful ideologies and spiritual abuse within the church. We do not, however, publish anything contradicting an orthodox understanding of the Christian faith.

We welcome previously published material, but the author/artist is responsible for ensuring that publishing with us does not infringe on existing copywriting agreements. We ask that the author/artist wait at least 6 months when published with us before re-publishing the same work elsewhere. We appreciate reposts and linkbacks whenever possible.

  • The Holy Shift aims to spark hope and curiosity through creativity and explore tough questions and challenging truths conversationally.

  • Our goal is to be an invitational ministry that embodies humility, curiosity, and compassion. We hold dignity and unity in high regard and deeply appreciate art that advocates for beauty, goodness, and justice in the world.

  • Accepted submissions will be posted on the blog in tandem with current themes and often featured on social media. We are not a paying market, but we include short artist/author bios linking to websites and social media as appropriate. (We reserve the right to remove links or posts at any time for any reason.)
