DNDW 7: Stillness, Therapy & Theology
Join Christine for a special bonus episode featuring her personal therapist, Crystal Logan. They dive deep into the role and purpose of emotions and explore why grief, trauma, and hurt often need to be addressed in the body, mind, and spirit. Crystal also explains how therapy and prayer intersect, and self-compassion helps us heal.
Crystal then guides us through a powerful stillness exercise designed to help our bodies shift into a state of safety, allowing us to connect with ourselves and experience Jesus’ presence. Christine closes the episode by sharing a personal reflection on how this exercise and other trauma therapies have begun to heal the deep hurt she's carried.
This is an intimate conversation about the peace and freedom we experience when we learn to be still in Jesus’ healing presence.
For anybody who is dealing with grief or trauma or betrayal or abandonment, the beautiful thing about getting to sit still with Jesus is that even if you feel like everyone else has abandoned you—and maybe you're like me, you've abandoned yourself a million times—this is a really great practice to remind you that you are not alone, and you are loved so deeply by Jesus.

Scripture
1 KINGS 19“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire
there was the sound of a gentle whisper.
When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
PSALM 46God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
He says, “
Be still, and know that I am God
; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
ISAIAH 26:3You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Mark 6:31"Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." -Jesus
1 Peter 5:7Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
PSALM 131My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.
But
I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.
ISAIAH 41Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Quotes
Emotions aren't good or bad; they're just information and actually a way that God gave us to help us figure out what's going on internally. -Crystal Logan
For anybody who is dealing with grief or trauma or betrayal or abandonment, the beautiful thing about getting to sit still with Jesus is that even if you feel like everyone else has abandoned you—and maybe you're like me, you've abandoned yourself a million times—this is a really great practice to remind you that you are not alone and you are loved so deeply by Jesus. -Christine Crawford
God made us human, right? He likes humans. God created emotions because they're important information to help us know what's going on internally. And if we didn't have them, we would be clueless and just kind of drifting through life. I think it's really just a gift—emotions are a gift from God. -Crystal Logan
We're whole beings. So when we're doing some counseling, we're not just dealing with our emotions. We are dealing with our bodies and our brains, too. -Christine Crawford
Our bodies and our minds. Everything is just so interconnected. But I think it's part of the way God made us. And also just a way, like we have multiple ways really just to be aware of what's happening internally. And that also helps us to get our needs met. -Crystal Logan
I am just really a hundred percent convinced that the Lord wants us to be with him, and the Lord wants us to be whole. -Christine Crawford
Often, we get kind of disconnected from ourselves, our bodies, and what's going on. The beautiful thing about learning how to ground and doing grounding exercises is that it's any way to help calm your body, allowing you to be present and grounded in what's happening. The more you can do that, the easier it becomes to connect with the Lord. To hear his voice. But also to connect with yourself and to be aware of what's happening in your body, what emotions you're feeling, what needs are coming up. -Crystal Logan
