Do Not Wait

Poem by Rachel Joy Welcher

DO NOT WAIT

Do not wait to rejoice.
Do not wait to enjoy.
Do not save and save
and forget to spend yourself
walking up a tall hill just for
the view. Do not say:
“When it is quiet, I will….”
Find the quiet. Chase it.
Walk to where the quiet lives,
and pray while watching a bird
hop on the ground. Do not worry
about bringing a pen
or taking a picture.
It is meant to be fleeting,
a vapor, a brief moment
to reintroduce yourself to God.
