Comm(unity) Tree
by Christine Chandler Prater
A DARING INVITATION
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.“
Matthew 11:28
Jaws clenched, chests heaving
the world rages in a tug of war
Sweltering under scorching
sun, we yank with fear-fisted
fingers and jerk with desperate
gusto––convinced that to give
an inch is to lose it all
But another voice and choice
beckons; a daring invitation
to drop the rope and gather
at a smooth, round table
beneath the dappled
shade of unity rooted
in eternity himself
