And All Shall Be Well

Art + Reflection by Sofia Rector

All Shall be Well by Sofia Rector
"All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well." - Julian of Norwich

“Quick now, here, now, always–

A condition of complete simplicity

(Costing not less than everything)

And all shall be well and

All manner of thing shall be well…”

T.S. Eliot – Four Quartets 4: Little Gidding

As I read those stanzas with a few friends, I was reminded of the magnolia branches outside my window in winter. We have one of those pink ones whose leaves are not evergreen. Instead, they fall in the late autumn to reveal bare branches–but also hope: furry buds tightly curled, awaiting spring warmth.
