Branches

by Ashton Walther

What if we all just chose to be happy
What if we caught a fish from a stream
And cooked it by the fire
What if we built a home from the branches of a forest
by the stream
By the fire
What if we chose to be kind to everyone
What if we spent our days trying to be like Jesus
What if our to-do list was helping others
And our evenings spent with the sunset and the stars
And a fish
From the stream
By the fire
In our home
made from branches of the forest.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

ASHTON WALTHER
is a native Texan raising 3 kids on a ranch in Oklahoma with her husband and 2 mini-schnauzers (along with a growing collection of cows, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, rabbits, and chickens). Ashton seeks the simple life of following God, being outdoors with her family, and caring for their menagerie of animals. Occasionally, she wrangles her thoughts about the world into poetry, because some things are better said with fewer words.
